An innovator and a visionary, Rakesh Verma, Managing Director and the founder of MapmyIndia, quit a successful career of 12 years in the USA to return to India in 1990s. What proved a potent combination was his work with grounds-up state-of-the-art Saturn Car venture of General Motors, his deep understanding of cutting-edge ever-galloping speed of technological innovation and management practices in USA, and his burning desire to help participate in accelerating development in his own country. Here in India, he very soon zeroed-in on the benefits of hitherto unknown digital maps when nobody in the world had understood its universal need and power to drive growth in companies, governance, as well as consumers' lives. What followed through his relentless pursuit of excellence in 25 years was the building and growth of MapmyIndia as India’s own provider of Digital Maps and associated technologies and products in the areas of maps, navigation, tracking and analytics.
Through his consistent and back-breaking efforts of working against the tide of several limitations in the eco-system, such as lack of awareness about what maps can do, trained manpower, wanting work-culture needed specifically for technology areas, MapmyIndia is a throbbing sole All-India-Digital-Map-Provider that can address the entire landscape of Government, Defence, Businesses, and Consumers alike, a Product Company, and a Technology Company, with an agile workforce, having a value system that is not a copy-and-paste of western ethos but very much Indian that believes in contributing to India’s development.
Now, as President of the Survey and Mapping Association (SAMA), Co-Chair FICCI geospatial committee and being a member of Think Tank on Framework for a National Policy on Ecommerce, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, he plans to continue to contributing to national growth. He was nominated to the National GIS Core Group of the Planning Commission of the Government of India.
His entrepreneurial success has been featured by several leading publications, and he has been honoured by his Alma Mater – featuring him in the top 50 BITSian achievers in the last 50 years. Most recently, in 2016, the industry also recognized his contributions by awarding him the ‘Geospatial Leader of the Year’ award. July-August 2013 edition of the Harvard Business Review featured a case study on MapmyIndia as a customer funded start-up.
Rakesh is a Bachelors of Engineering from BITS Pilani, India, 1972, and an MBA from Eastern Washington University, USA in 1979.

She has over 35 years of rich experience in technology, management and entrepreneurship in the IT industry. Starting her career as a Software Engineer at IBM, USA she grew rapidly to being a consultant to IBM Global Business Services.
Rashmi, not satisfied with this career trajectory, relinquished her settled career and lifestyle in the US to pursue a dream. She quit a successful career of 12 years in the USA to return to India in the early 90s. Suffused with a strong desire to bring innovative IT solutions to India, she and her husband started out on their own. Her vast experience at IBM with the latest software technologies of the time, became instrumental in supporting her achievements as an entrepreneur in coming years. She has led MapmyIndia’s pioneering and path-breaking efforts to create the foundation, framework and architecture for a robust and scalable model of digital mapping in India. She established the passion for building maps as the basic DNA of MapmyIndia. As part of this monumental effort, Rashmi selflessly trained, mentored and created a team of passionate GIS and digital mapping and software professionals at MapmyIndia.
